Quinta do Pégo is located in the Douro demarcated region in the heart of the area classified as World Heritage by Unesco. According to historical documents the production of wine at Quinta do Pégo can be dated back to 1548. Today, Quinta do Pégo has 33 hectares planted with vines and the soil is A classified, which is the highest classification of the region. The first wine produced under the Quinta do Pégo label was a Vintage Port 2000, which was followed by a 2003 Douro D.O.P. red wine.
Quinta do Pégo Signature 2012 is produced by the South African winemaker Wouter Pienaar.
As 2012 was a good vintage, Quinta do Pégo has chosen to produce this Quinta do Pégo Signature red wine. It was produced for the first time in vintage 2011 and now it is decided to repeat the success by this vintage 2012.
The wine is produced from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão grapes and it has been aged for 15 months in new French oak. Afterwards the wine has been aged in the bottle before being released.
2012 Quinta do Pégo Signature has a beautiful, rich, dark red colour, variety of fruit flavours, berries, cherries, liquorice and an oakiness which contributes to the complexity of the wine and with more ageing will integrate more to improve the wine. For such a young wine it is already very elegant with strong, ripe tannin structure and subtle oak overtones showing good maturation potential.
