Description
Quinta do Pégo Friends’ Selection is a blend of the traditional Douro grape varieties; Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão. The wine is produced by the South African winemakers Wouter Pienaar and Niel Bester.
The grapes for this beautiful red wine are grown at Quinta do Pégo, situated on the left bank of the Douro river in the Douro valley in Portugal. Quinta do Pégo’s land is classified in group A, which is the absolute best group in the Douro valley. The yield is low, and the grapes are harvested at their optimal ripeness.
This wine is produced from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão grapes.
The fermentation was done in the traditional Portuguese method of trampling the grapes by foot to extract the colour and tannins as gently as possible.
This elegant wine has been matured in French oak barrels for 12 months.
It is a fantastic wine. The dark inky-red wine invites with vibrant red fruit, red berries and floral notes on the nose. The palate is lush with typical varietal fruit and berry flavours. It has subtle integrated oak tones and soft tannins to contribute to elegance and complexity.
This harmonious and well structured wine is especially suitable with pasta and rice dished, red meats, game and cheese.
This is indeed a wonderful red wine, which will improve with bottle ageing and has a good maturation potential.
