Quinta do Pégo Grande Reserva 2006 is the result of a careful selection from wines of the 2006 harvest. The wine is produced by winemaker Wouter Pienaar.
The grapes for this elegant red wine are grown on the Quinta do Pégo estate, situated on the left side of the Douro river in the Douro Valley in Portugal. Quinta do Pégo’s land is classified in group A. The yield is low and only the finest grapes have been used for the wine. The grapes have been harvested at optimum ripeness and only selected red yeast strain is used.
The wine is produced from the main red varieties Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinto Cão.
This elegant wine was matured for 12 months in French oak casks (75%) and stainless steel (25%). Afterwards the wine has been bottle aged before release.
This wine has an intense ruby red colour with rich aromatic flavours and strong overtones of ripe red fruits, such as blackberries, cherries and pepper. The vanilla oakiness contributes to a complex, consistent and balanced wine, with a strong tannin structure and a long persistent finish.
The wine is especially suitable with red meats, game and cheese.
This is indeed an extraordinairy, unfiltered red wine, which will improve with bottle ageing and has a good maturation potential.
