The grapes for this elegant red wine are grown on the Quinta do Pégo estate in the Douro Valley in Portugal, whose land is classified in group A. The wine is produced by winemaker Wouter Pienaar.
The yield is low and only the finest grapes have been used for the wine. The grapes have been harvested at optimum ripeness during the last week of September, and only selected red yeast strain is used.
The wine is produced from app. 50% Touriga Nacional, app. 40% Touriga Franca and app. 10% Tinto Cão grapes.
72% of the wine has been wood matured for app. 8 months in new French oak barrels from Allier. 28% of the wine has been matured in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards the wine has been bottle aged before release.
This unique red wine has a luscious ruby red colour, fresh and intense bouquet. It is full-bodied with red fruit, black currant, black cherries and pepper flavours with vanilla oakiness and has strong tannin structure and a long and pleasant finish.
The wine is especially suitable with red meats, game and cheese.
This is indeed an extraordinairy, unfiltered red wine, which will improve with bottle ageing and has a good maturation potential.
