Description
All grapes at Quinta do Pégo are certified sustainable agriculture according to PRODI (Integrated Production) principles. Among other parameters, this includes to maintain the stability of ecosystems including healthy soil and clean water, to preserve natural resources and wildlife, and to promote biodiversity.
Quinta do Pégo Grande Reserva 2019 is the result of a careful selection of wines of the 2019 harvest. The grapes for this elegant red wine are grown at Quinta do Pégo, situated on the left bank of the Douro river in the Douro valley in Portugal.
This wine is produced from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão grapes.
The fermentation was done in the traditional Portuguese method of trampling the grapes by foot to extract the colour and tannins as gently as possible.
This elegant wine has been matured in French oak barrels for approximately 14 months. Afterwards the wine has been matured in the bottle before release.
The wine has a rich dark red colour. It presents aromas of floral notes, prunes, red berries, cedar and sweet spices. The taste shows concentrated red and dark fruits, black figs and appealing minerality. Tannis are grippy, but juicy and and provide length and structure. This ensures a long persistent finish on the palate and good ageing potential.
This unique and well structured wine is especially suitable with red meats, game and cheese.
This is indeed an extraordinairy red wine, which will improve with bottle ageing and has a good maturation potential.
As the wine is only lightly filtered, deposit might occur and therefore decanting is recommended.
