Descrição
Quinta do Pégo is located in the Douro demarcated region in the heart of the area classified as World Heritage by Unesco. According to historical documents the production of wine at Quinta do Pégo can be dated back to 1548. Today, Quinta do Pégo has 30 hectares planted with vines and the soil is A classified, which is the highest classification of the region. All grapes at Quinta do Pégo are certified sustainable agriculture according to PRODI (Integrated Production) principles. Among other parameters, this includes to maintain the stability of ecosystems including healthy soil and clean water, to preserve natural resources and wildlife, and to promote biodiversity.
Under the Quinta do Pégo label the first wine produced was a Vintage Port in 2000, followed by the first DOC Grande Reserva red wine in 2003, the first Signature in 2011 and the first Vinhas Velhas in 2013.
Some of the older vineyards have been replaced since 2000, but there is an old “mother block” consisting of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Sousão and several other traditional red varietals, still showing good potential and producing good quality fruit, which is the backbone of the Quinta do Pégo Vinhas Velhas since its inception in 2013. This low yielding vineyard produces a wine with strong varietal character and exceptional quality.
The grapes for this Quinta do Pégo Vinhas Velhas were traditionally trampled by foot and fermented in granite lagares to ensure good colour and soft tannin extraction.
This wine was matured in a selection of new French oak barrels for 16 months.
The wine has a lively dark red colour with an aromatic nose of white chocolate, caramel, red fruit and cherries. The palate is powerful with ripe dark red fruit, soft tannins and integrated oak flavours. These attributes ensure excellent maturation potential.
Due to minimal interference before bottling a deposit may occur and therefore decanting is recommended.
This wine is a proof of the old vineyard’s true potential.
Please enjoy this wine or store it for the right occasion.
