Quinta do Pégo Grande Reserva 2013 is the result of a careful selection of wines of the 2013 harvest. The wine is produced by winemaker Wouter Pienaar. The grapes for this elegant red wine is grown at Quinta do Pégo, situated on the left bank of the Douro river in the Douro valley in Portugal.
This wine is produced from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão grapes.
The fermentation was done in the traditional Portuguese method of tramping the grapes by foot to extract the colour and tannins as gently as possible.
This elegant wine has been matured in French oak barrels for approximately 12 months. Afterwards the wine has been matured in the bottle before release.
The wine presents rich, deep red colour with some purple hints. A variety of berry flavours and oaky overtones contribute to the complexity of the wine. The oak is already well-integrated and combined with a soft tannin structure will ensure good maturation potential and freshness.
This unique and well structured wine is especially suitable with red meats, game and cheese.
This is indeed an extraordinairy red wine, which will improve with bottle ageing and has a good maturation potential.
As the wine is only lightly filtered, depôt might occur and therefore decanting is recommended.
