Quinta do Pégo is a wine estate with 30 hectares of vineyards, the origin of the wines that carry its name. Although production itself is not carried out on site, the Quinta invites guests to taste high-quality PDO wines and Ports, with accommodation and dining for an immersive Douro experience.
Located on the banks of the Douro River, it enjoys a privileged position along National Road 222, considered by AVIS to be the most beautiful road in the world.

The richness of the Douro goes far beyond the river, the terraced vineyards and the wine. It is expressed and felt above all in the warm spirit of hospitality, in the sharing of knowledge and in the unmistakable way of being and living in the countryside.
The Douro invites you to slow down and awaken all five senses. In that sense, our mission is to offer authentic, family-oriented experiences that make you feel at home, even when you are far from home.
History
A story that spans centuries
From the first historical record to its opening as a rural hotel, Quinta do Pégo has been shaped by families, wine, schist architecture and a deep connection to the Douro.
- 1548: the earliest records connected to Quinta do Pégo date from this period.
- 1773: the main historic structures of the estate date back to this year, including the winery, granite lagares, chapel and family house.
- 1825: Francisco Torres, second husband of Dona Antónia Ferreira, acquired the estate through a mandatory sale.
- 2000: the first wine under the Quinta do Pégo name was registered; until then, production was sold to other companies.
- 2003: the Danish company AMKA acquired Quinta do Pégo in full and began a partnership with Rozès in viticulture and winemaking.
- 2007-2009: the main building was rebuilt and the Quinta opened as a 4-star rural hotel.
- Since 2020: Niel Bester, a South African winemaker, has been responsible for the Quinta’s wines, continuing the work of Wouter Pienaar.
